After some testing yesterday and noticing something like this was going on, and after reading several other posts on this today, I decided to do some digging. I believe the answer is that one afflock's Haunt either overwrites or cancels out the other afflock's Haunt.

So, as you can see from the logs. After a haunt is casted, Nosferatu's corruption ticks for 1727. After Luxury casts Haunt, his corruption drops to only 1439.


So, follow with me on the math. To start, we need to find out what his corruption would be doing without modifiers. With 1727 * 6 ticks = 10362, we have to solve for X. X represents base damage plus spell power bonus added/already calculated.

X * 1.30 (Shadow Mastery 15% + Improved Corruption 10% + Contagion 5%) * 1.03 Malediction * 1.03 Ferocious Inspiration * 1.13 Earth and Moon * 1.20 Haunt * 1.10 Shadow Embrace = 10362.

When I solve for X I get 5037.


Now, after Luxury casts haunt, Nosfaratu's corruption drops to 1439 damage per tick, or 1436 * 6 ticks = 8634.

Now, take the above equation, and remove haunt:

X = 5037

5037 * 1.30 (Shadow Mastery 15% + Improved Corruption 10% + Contagion 5%) * 1.03 Malediction * 1.03 Ferocious Inspiration * 1.13 Earth and Moon * 1.10 Shadow Embrace = 8635.


I get the same result if I do the math for immolate and CoA as well.

I do believe we have found the bug. Math geeks have at it. Let me know if I've made any mistakes. As we know, DoT "buffs" are calculated at the time of casting, and since he doesn't recast the DoTs here where we're looking in the combat log, that part would not cause this. The only other thing could be debuffs on the boss itself, but I see no debuff changes on the boss in the combat log for the time period we're looking at here.

I know, I probably could have simplified it a lot more, but I wanted to be thorough, and account for every variable as to not miss any angles. And yes it looks like only one warlock's DoTs can benefit from haunt at one time.

This also explains why some people were not seeing any dps loss (they were the only afflock in the raid), while others were seeing a dps loss (more than one afflock in the raid).

The other possible source of 1.2 modifer might be that Haunt is stealing all of the Shadow Embrace debuffs.

I changed the filter in the log to

((unit="luxury") or (unit="nosfaratu")) and (spell=corruption or spell=haunt or spell="shadow bolt")

And scrolled to the beginning of the fight.

But the pattern is not completely consistant with that explaination. The bonus seems to be ping-ponging back and forth, and it doesn't seem to always be with Haunt. I'll look more later.

A good way to isolate the problem to Haunt or Shadow Embrace would be to find a WWS w/ 3+ Afflocks showing anomolies.

Just need 2 locks to spec into Haunt without picking up shadow embrace to isolate the issue.

What you could also be seeing is that there is only one Shadow Embrace and all afflocks benefit from it, and can refresh it. Or mutliple Shadow Embraces, but each lock can refresh their own and each other's and add the 2nd stack, etc. Hard to say.

Also, since you're looking at the very beginning of the fight, did you check for debuffs on patchwerk in the timeframe you're looking at? It's possible debuffs were still going up, etc.

Earth and Moon went up at 02:56'21.953, before the first Corruption tick
Ferocious Inspiration went up at 02:56'18.375 at the start of the fight, and then seemed to continuously be refreshed. That's harder to track.

I believe those are the only buffs/debuffs that would play a role. I didn't see any others.

Patchwerk's debuffs did show two separate stacks, and they're updated slightly after the times indicated. I have noticed before that it takes a fraction of a second after the SB/Haunt hit to refresh/increment SE.

I did find a 3-afflock Patchwerk from yesterday browsing WWS. I'm going to see if it shows any weird behavior.

Well, I tried to trace that WWS, but with 3 locks and tracking all of the raid buffs and trinket procs, I got a headache. FWIW, here's what I saw. I didn't see conclusive evidence of anything, nor conclusive disproof. The Corruption ticks jump around all the time it seems. It's got to be some sort of buff/debuff affecting it. It might be influenced by Auras/Totems, since aura buff/debuffs don't seem to register as buff/debuffs.

I'd have to agree w/ Fallen (with his post on the DD forums). Controlled tests might gain the best results. The problem is that the order in which spells and debuffs are applied may be relevant, and all the cases need to be tested.

Heres last nights raid with two affliction locks. Being that math has never been one of my stronger subjects, feel free to try and gather any information you can from this parse. Both of us are basically almost in the best gear in the game at the moment so feel free to dig up any information you can. I hope this can help in any way so we can get these bugs worked out.

Anyways, its pretty clearly not SE when you clean up the filter log to what I had linked in the Warlock Bug thread. It shows only when Nos or I put up a Haunt, and then only MY Corruption ticks.

The filter is: (unit="luxury" and (spell="corruption" or (spell="haunt" and event=spell_damage) or spell="dying curse")) or (unit="nosfaratu" and spell="haunt" and event=spell_damage)

Ignoring the first few seconds as debuffs are going up and Dying Curse procc'd Corruption ticks. Its clear that my rough average Corruption tick when Nos has the latest Haunt is 1.8k and when I have the latest Haunt is 2.2k.

Notice that 1800*1.2 = 2160.

Just tested this with another lock on the target dummies on Orgrimmar.

With a 2 stack of Shadow Embrace and Haunt my Corruption ticks for 1364. As soon as the other lock casted Haunt, my Corruption ticks went down to 1136. So, exactly the 20% loss from Haunt.

So basically instead of 1 lock losing 10% from DoTs, both locks lose an average of 10% (if there are two aff locks) /sadface.

This bug has apparently been hotfixed:
