The current release over-estimates it a bit...... It has since been tweaked to:
1% chance to proc on spell-cast with no internal cooldown
multiple valkyrs can be out at once
valkyr gets off 16 smites over 30sec
valkyr does not benefit from any player gear or talents
smite does 1061-1189 with exactly 5% crit chance
It gets listed under the player actions as "valkyr_smite". For convenience, it is modeled as a background action performed by the player, but it is marked as a "pseudo_pet" so that the spells cast do not trigger any player abilities/talents/gear procs.

The proc chance is pretty low though and you can go some long periods of time without getting one. It does scale with CoE and the attack it uses can crit.
Example last night we did Surafang and it was an avg 10m group and it popped three times and in those three times it did as much total damage as the boomkins' treants we had in the raid.

One of our mages who has this staff was playing with a frost spec, on single target it is just around 2% of his damage from what I've observed.
The interesting thing was heroic 25 Anub'arak. It seems that it can proc off the aoe hits on the adds -- the valkyr were 10.6% of his damage on this fight and there were a ton of them running around the place from his blizzard hits.

Just wondering if I can get a hand from a Simcraft guru...
A rather tasty looking new trinket has appeared on MMOC, Phylactery of the Nameless Lich. I've been trying to model it in Simcraft using the line below, which doesn't seem to be working correctly. I've assumed since it's a 20s duration that the ICD will have doubled from usual too (from 45s to 90s).
trinket1=phylactery_of_the_nameless_lich,stats=172crit,equip=ontick_1032sp_10%_20dur_ 90cd
I've played around a bit and it seems that the equip arguments aren't being simulated - I get the same DPS values regardless of whether it's there or not. The value seems consistent with a simple 172crit buff.
Is OnTick to be used for spell periodic damage? Looking at the code there doesn't seem to be any events that are more specific to dots.

I've had my Nibelung proc from ticks of rain of fire, which suggests it'd be quite handy on fights with plenty of adds. I first noticed this when right after killing Deathwhisper (and my getting the staff) we went to do the weekly raid quest, which was Patchwerk. The Val'kyr proc went off while I was halfway through a rain of fire on the AOE-aura slime room - the silly thing then charged into range and got AOE'd down with great speed, making my first proc something of an anticlimax. It then went off again in Halls of Reflection when I had a rain of fire up to deal with the waves of ghouls near the end.
If the Val'kyr do about 500 dps spamming smite, have 30 seconds of uptime and a 1% chance on cast, then their DPS for you when standing and casting would be (30/(100*average cast time))*500dps, or 100 DPS when casting at about 1.5 seconds, 75 when casting at ~2 seconds and 60 when casting at ~2.5 seconds. This means the proc does scale slightly with haste and is more likely to go off during heroism when you arguably want it most, but it's affected far more by your spec's main nuke base cast time.
I plan on testing if it'll go off from Seed of Corruption in the near future; it should proc from the initial hit, but I have no idea about its explosion. I doubt it can proc at all from single target dot ticks, just initial casts, but I'll have a try at that as well - if it can, it'll scale slightly better with haste for Affliction.
On a non-DPS related note I'd be tempted to not use it at all on any future attempts at Many Whelps! for people who missed it, given 50-odd whelps being hit, the odds are you'll get a veritable swarm (flock?) of Val'kyr by the end of your first whelp phase, adding to the difficulty of the "connection stability achievement" - it would make a nice screenshot though, and as shock troops of the Lich King, the Val'kyr causing DCs to wipe the raid is somewhat fitting.

I am receiving counter-intuitive results from simcraft and am wondering if I am doing something wrong. My current haste is 456, which I consider quite low, while my current crit is 723. Yet, my scale factor for haste after 10k iterations (0.7676) is lower than that for crit (0.8162). In addition to my intuition, the slope of my haste vs dps curve is presently higher than my crit vs dps curve, which also leads me to think that haste should be more valuable. The dip in the curve after +80 haste also bothers me, but that is a problem for another day.
Disclaimer: Yes, I know my hit is too high, I'm working on it.
Thank you in advance for any insight you may have into my situation.

Alright. Just did that, not seeing any matches in the combat log for "phyl".
On changing it from ontick to ondamage it starts proccing in the log pretty quickly (though obviously that's not accurate due to it only proccing on periodic damage).
Any ideas?

Are you using low latency setting? I followed Demon's advice and set it to high latency and the scaling factors for haste DOUBLED. I believe high latency setting is closer to what I'm experiencing during the actual fights, which is around 200ms. Scaling curve smoothed out a lot and weird cases where gaining haste results in a DPS loss are gone.

Hello, I have download the last version of simc and see to brand new options:
Adds and player skill.
It's really nice specially adds cause demono and affliction seems to dps more with adds(soulfire proc for demono and multi-doting for affliction).
However, is there an explanation on how we could specifiy a different rotation with adds ? Wanted to see if mulitple corruption would be interesting to proc MC more often in demono for instance.

The tool-tip should say that multi-DoTing is not yet supported. If not, I'll update it.
We went back and forth on this for a while: Should we expose support for SOME multi-target abilities when we are missing a major aspect of multi-target support like multi-DoTing? In the end concerns over properly modeling Mutilate/Combat specs made the decision for me. I decided to initially support just the "...and targets nearby" abilities like Blade Flurry, Cleave, Chain Lightning, etc..
Regarding scale factor generation...... The introduction of the "adds" raid event so that we could model them being temporarily present introduced an uninitialized variable that may be interfering with our released version of scale factor gen. I'll have a new release out tonight.

I've got two things to add to the thread that I have not seen mentioned.
First of all I have noticed none of our new gear has Spirit, so does that make Fel Armor and/or Glyph of Life Tap not as valuable?
Second, with the current bug on Quick Decay making it fall off with time to spare, would it be wiser to go with a different glyph such as Agony temporarily?

if you mean that corruption falls off with (for example) 2 seconds to go on your DoT timer, this bug has been around since everlasting affliction was introduced as far as i know.
it occurs because the timer gets refreshed to full but the first tick happens 3 seconds after the last tick occurred instead of three seconds after the refresh occurs.
we want the first tick to happen when it does, otherwise if you refreshed by channelling drain life the ticks would continue to refresh and you'd never get any corruption damage.
as i say this behaviour has been present for some time. it's only now we're all watching the corruption timer closely because it can drop off that you notice it happening now.
as for the spirit thing, it's easy enough to run simcraft with varying values for spirit to see how low spirit can get before GoLT stops being the best option. it's actually surprising how low it can get and still be a good glyph choice.
