HT costs no rage, deals massive amounts of damage and uses ranged hit table.

Hello!

I only recently obtained the heroic tier head for my protection offspec and i'm wondering whether it's adviceable to reforge the massive amount of parry into mastery assuming you're slightly below CTC cap or reforge the expertise for more total avoidance? I find that i have some issue keeping the dodge/parry ratio close without reforging away from it on aforementioned piece of gear. Not sure what takes priority between the extra CTC, avoidance or dodge/parry ratio in this situation.

Without knowing your actual numbers, it's hard to say for certain, but as has been pointed out before, keeping Dodge and Parry even is not nearly as important as the Warrior forums on the official WoW website leads players to believe. If you're not having trouble keeping threat, I'd say reforging the expertise to mastery should Block Cap you, or at least get you that much closer without sacrificing avoidance.

Tyráel: On the off chance that we don't suck at what we do, we should probably stop being so nice to people. They might get the wrong idea.
Rynok: You kicked someone from a PUG last week for sneezing in Vent without permission. How could anyone get the wrong idea about that?!

And resets your swing timer, which means you get less rage.

Always differing opinions on the dodge/parry ratio it seem so i'll try to use the search function to find some elaboration on it.

The above should bring to what I call the Dodge Parry Chart. An interesting part of the situation is that if you push dodge and parry closer together, you should get more CTC. As you pick up more dodge than you lose parry from the diminishing returns effect. The hold the line effect will now be up less, meaning more total damage taken I suppose. So I see that one has some room to go for a bit more coverage, or a bit less total damage taken from a higher percentage of critical blocks.

Shockwave also resets your swing timer. Its not a big deal. I'm losing ~5k damage on average from the lost melee hit (which doesn't even include the chance for it to get missed, parried, dodged, blocked, or glanced).

In terms of rage, at most i'm losing a melee hit that would give me 16.9 rage. Well worth it over a devastate that costs 15 rage due to the fact that heroic throw does a bit more damage than revenge once you subtract the damage from one melee hit off all the damage heroic throw does.

But I mean if you really don't want to lose the melee hit, there is a specific timing right before your next swing where you can force the "lost" melee hit to show up at the same time as the next melee hit.

Anyone know off hand how much Shield Slam scales with attp? I've been having trouble finding this.

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at here, but Heroic Throw doesn't do that much damage.

Shockwave does not reset the swing timer.

My mistake about Shockwave. Runtime is correct. I observed incorrectly.

Interms of HT scaling, I'm under the impression that its coefficient is 0.75 making it scale better than SS.
Of course its not as good due to the reset swing timer but it should be better than devastate at the very least and probably better than revenge. Especially given that it uses the ranged hit table.

You're probably losing at least 5k damage from resetting your swing timer, and that's not even counting the loss of a partial heroic strike from the rage gain.

It's detrimental to your DPS and your TPS.

Lets assume my next melee will hit. A rather grand assumption against my case.

with full vengeance, my average HT does 17k
I lose the melee swing but the ability was free so the net rage cost was 16.9 rage.

with full vengeance, my average dev does ~10k do to crits.
I get the melee swing for an additional 5k with the net damage being 15k for the net rage cost of 15 rage.

This isn't even considering that HT has a ranged hit table and dev has a melee hit table.
I'm not sure what there is to argue. HT is worth using atleast as much as dev with the talent spec I was using.
Also SnB didn't play into the equation because I used HT only when I wasn't looking for SnB procs anyways.

But I guess back to the point. Shockwave, Conc blow and rend refresh. Are keeping these abilities on cd or uptime worth it over prioritizing a rev or dev after SS?

You don't lose a full swing, only a part of it.

Your also ignoring deep wounds which both HS and Dev have increased chances to crit through talents and glyphs.

Deep Wounds merely causes your critical strikes to apply a bleed effect to the target.

Incite increases the critical strike chance of Heroic Strike, and Sword and Board increases the critical strike chance of Devastate.
