A rather simple question I think:
I've just been gemming my new gear, and in most pieces I gem +40 strenght gems because I don't feel that the socket bonus is strong enough. But sometimes I'm not sure, for example, how does one calculate which stat is better +10 strenght or +20 crit? Has someone calculated how much dps is added with +10 strenght +10 hit +10 haste etc? Would appreciate any help!

The best thing to do is run a SimulationCraft with your current gear and have it calculate the stat weights for relative stats. Then if Str is 1 point and crit is >.50 then it would be more beneficial to take the socket bonus. if its <.50 its not worth it.

Hi, im a first time poster but a long time reader.

I enjoy pvp as prot occasionly and i know the value of spell reflection there. However my question is in the current heroics and normal raids what is the value of spell reflection and on what abilities can it be used specifically? The problem is that i dont know if it will work in a specific encounter so i tend to not use it at all.

On a related subject im excited to see the change to shield block which will allow spell damage reduction. I Imagine however that we will still be using shield block primarily for melee phases, corrrect me if im wrong. It seems that most bosses do either spell damage or melee damage during a phase but not at the same time generally, and that mitigating the high melee is more important especially since our shield block works better for that.

Regarding Spell Reflection: listing all the abilities that can be reflected would take a bit of time, but as a general rule of thumb for 5-mans, if a spell is directly targeted at you (e.g. Drahga Shadowburner's Shadowbolts) it can be reflected. Any AoEs or non-targeted spells cannot. However, you can forget about Spell Reflection working in raids. If a raid boss ability could be reflected, it would either a) have to be inconsequential, or b) require a Warrior tank.

As far as Shield Block's magic reduction component, keep in mind that a lot of bosses mix physical damage and magic damage. On Cho'gall, for example, when Flame's Orders goes up, Shield Block will help mitigate both kinds of damage. There are also bosses whose physical damage is negligible (e.g. Valiona and Theralion) where saving Shield Block for a burst of magical damage, should you get caught in it, is probably worth it.

Spell Reflect PS

As for Spell Reflect in raids, it does work on certain abilities. For example you can reflect Arcane Annihilator if uninterrupted and aimed at you (means youre not tanking Arcanotron at the time). Also Cho'gall's Flame Orders will be deflected, so in terms of avoiding damage it definitely helps. Actually I think thats all you can do with Spell Reflect in raids, but its always something.
[Also little correction on aoe/spells not targeted at you, you can reflect aoe on Siamat for example as its a projectile, even if its not directly casted at you. Not sure about others examples at the moment, but you get the idea.]

I currently have 9.39% (w/ percision) in (basically) pre-raid PVE gear, and I maintain great rage in dungeons. I've heavily favored crit over anything once I hit the hit & exp caps, and wound up with 20.63 crit% (w/o battle shout) and 15.36 mastery.

With these stats, all I really need is an opening battle shout and I'm off an running. If I ever feel 'starved' I look to hit my bloodsurge procs a few times in a row. So where my rotation would be bt > rb > bt > rb/bloodsurge, i'd use bloodsurge for a few GCD's to stack up rage. Usually I only have to do that a few times, and never on big boss pulls.

PVP gear tends to have more haste on it, so my stats take a bit of a hit, but I maintain the same principle there. Although that is mainly burst, so crit is even more important.

I was wondering if it would be worthy reforging and re-gemming for higher hit rating for fights such as Heroic MagMaw since there is 1-2 adds present besides the boss. By doing that more cleaves could be used.

However, I came across this parse World of Logs - Real Time Raid Analysis
I am 99% sure Landsoul had 8% hit build here as cleave is not his top spell, so this parse discourages me from trying high hit build since well he is the top fury warrior for this fight in the world...

Could anyone explain why high hit would not work here?

Forgive me if this is something I should PM someone, but I've read about equipping proc-based trinkets shortly before pulling in order to delay the proc.

For example, equipping a heart of rage trinket to delay its proc in order to stack it with Fury of Angerforge's on-use CD, along with DW and Recklessness.

My question is, how soon before engaging the boss should I equip the trinket? I know there's a 30-second ICD of 'on-use' trinkets, but is there also one on proc-based trinkets? If so, what is it and is there anything I can do to optimize or guarantee the trinket proc's delay?

If you're wondering how he attained such a high DPS number, it's because he delayed using DW and Recklessness until the second HoR proc, which lined up with the first burn phase. During this time, he also used his second pot. In other words, he did his most damage during that first burn phase.

I can figure that out without too much trouble on how he did that kind of damage.
My question though is, whether or not he could do more if he would get the hit up higher for more cleave usage since you would cleave magmaw and the add(s).

45 second Internal Cooldown was what I've known almost all proc based (minus DBW/HDBW) trinkets are.

Whilst that was true of WotlK most Cataclysm trinkets have been shown to have an ICD of 5 times the up time. For example [Crushing Weight] would have an ICD of 75 seconds.

Profession Combinations

Never posted before, recently reached 85 with my Warrior Tank, and as I leveled, I was Mining/BS. In an above post I saw that the top tier Prot Warriors had many different professions, ranging from Alchemy to LW to even Enchanting. Is there any recommended combination of Professions? Or is it simply a matter of personal opinion? Granted that I couldn't find agreement amongst the World First tanks (who one assumes could power level any profession in a few hours), what would you recommend for a new tank?

Thanks for the help, I hadn't seen this question answered anywhere else.

While most professions are pretty close as far as the bonuses they give. Logically i would guess that blacksmith and jewelcrafter would be best for warrior tanks, based on the ability to stack mastery. ofc that is only one option of many.

Custom Lag tolerance

How does Custom Lag tolerance option affect melee? I see some information for casters. But there doesn't seem to be alot testing done to back up any claims. Is there a general consistence that to set it right at your latency, if so I fine that hard to believe since its pretty dynamic.

Any help I can or discuss will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
