Patch 5.2 brings some (reasonable) changes to some of our spells. Especially the 10% nerf to Shield Barrier might bring Block/Barrier more in line to what Blizzard planned with it, but I will wait some more PTR builds before running detailed analyses.
Just in case anybody was wondering: Scalefactors for DPS
Hit = Exp >> Crit >> Haste = Mastery = Parry = Dodge
Scalefactor of Strength strongly depends on how hard the boss is hitting: For a 25man heroic boss it's on the level of crit. updated OP.
Does really str outweights crit 1:1 on lower vengeance levels? (10 heroic level for example). I did find it really curious, seeing that you are already up to 100k AP on those situations. How did it change with vengeance levels? It was a 1-tank situation?
Boss meleeing for 667k 1.5 sec speed (more or less 200k unblocked hits):
It's true that at a realistic level of vengeance, both Str and Crit are more or less the same. Mmm... but 333k melee hit on 1.5 speed lead to ~80k AP of vengeance. Doesn't 109kdps sound a bit too high considering neither executes nor damage CDs on the rotation (besides Heroism)?
hmm checking WoL on Feng/Garajal etc. gives me similar numbers of ~100k dps when tanks are taking ~30k damage per second. I could imagine that you are not seeing 100k dps at your tank due to tank switches / boss not attacking during his speciall abilities, leading to significantly lower average vengeance and thus dps numbers.
Feng is a bit to hard to measure, since you have to count cloned abilities and aoe on the adds, where a good 2h Bladestorm can give you millions of damage, though there should be logs of warrior tanks using the barrier skill and not aoeing too hard. But going to the best readeable Gara'jal log on a 10H, Damage Done - 27-12 21:45 - AFK Swimming Pool - World of Logs he got 87k with 30k average dtps. That was heavily abussing execute (up to 17% of his damage done). Removing that part of the log he was getting 67kdps with 25k dtps. There isn't a perfect boss this tier, but taking the big assumption that with the same average damage taken a fight is the same with 1 or 2 tanks, the result seems to be a bit far away. I don't know if the assumption is too big, but the player was more or less nailing his rotation, and was using CDs that should increase the damage against what appear on the sim.
On 25H there is a 115k log, but with a 40k dtps and again abussing execute (up to 20% of his damage). A shame there isn't a perfect boss on this tier, but I think I'm doing something wrong on that sim.
Thanks, didn't know you could check the vengeance. Certainly, it's too high, looking at the first sim, 129k.
The boss was set to 333k hits on 1.5 speed, no other abilities. That should give (20/1.5)*333333*0.018= 80k vengeance, so there is the problem. The only strange thing I see is that in the table abilities of fluffy_pillow seems to have a 5.0% crit, with hits of 31536 and crits of 125926. Otherwise, he only melees... I wonder why I get such an high vengeance.
Thanks for pointing out the vengeance and crit bugs, they are fixed in the next release. Will rerun SBlock / SBarrier comparisons for live and while I am at it for the PTR as well. However, if I remember correctly, the comparisons were made before that bug got introduced.
Current SBlock 30000 dtps
Current SBar 26800 dtps
PTR SBar 28780 dtps
So the 5.2 changes close the gap from 10% difference to 5% difference making it harder to argue for SBar in melee heavy fights.
For the 500+ ilvl tank with 2x dodge on proc trinkets, would Dancing steel be superior to River's song for migating damage? I have been browsing through armory and a lot of the very best geared protection warriors are using Dacing Steel.
The thing is, that the avoidance you get from River is not much more than the one from Dancing (specially if you are expertise hard capped), and you get a good damage increase from Dancing. So Dancing it is, even if the mitigation is a tad lower.
where a good 2h Bladestorm can give you millions of damage
I wanted to note that for Prot, 1h Bladestorm uses a 240% weapon damage modifier and 2h Bladestorm uses a 120% weapon damage modifier. Unless your 2h available is drastically better than your 1h weapon, the damage increase (if any) is most likely not worth the loss of shield during your bladestorm. 1h/Shield bladestorm does comparable damage as 2h with similar weapon levels.
Surprisingly VR and IV lie close together.. Although IV can be used more often (and thus gives more HPS itself) it takes up a portion of our rage and thus we can use fewer SBars resulting in slightly less HPS overall.
The 4pc is a ~6% rage increase which isn't too shabby and more importantly gives you this rage on demand.
