Honestly I have no idea. I look at the internal tag and the armor, and never figured out the rest.
The stats seem on par for Ilvl 156 gloves, but I'm far too lazy to spend 20 seconds and figure out.
I'll do it when I get back from work.

Leatherworking is simply a needed profession for every single person in the raid if you are pushing for world firsts, it's the only way to maximize RDPS completely.

Pretty much. I had a couple ways to truly bolster my character's strengths, Enchanting, Jewelcrafting, and Leatherworking. Enchanting is nice because +8 stam/str/agi is decent, but Jewelcrafting will only provide me I think +3 stamina, since I'm not sure it even has special dodge cuts. (But isn't there a defense one?). Anyway, JC bonuses still aren't even as good as enchanting. And Leatherworking provides the obvious Drums of Battle (and speed!) that enhance my own threat/dps and my entire group's at the same time. There are no truly good tanking craftables that aren't equalled or bettered by other dropped items, so Blacksmithing had no purpose.

Yeah, there is a 12 defense gem for JCs.
Enchanting is nice but the ring enchants are obviously only good as long as you have rings left to enchant. The moment I win the BoP JC DPS neck I am going to drop Enchanting for it because there is a distinct lack of new rings in Sunwell unless I am missing something. Is [Ring of the Stalwart Protector] really the only new tanking tanking in 2.4? I can't believe it and yet it definitely looks like that.

There is a crafted ring for physical DPS, magical DPS and healing - where is the tanking one?

A bit OT, but lvl ingeneering to 350 is insanely cheap compared to leatherworking. The only bad moment of Engineering is from 355 to 365 where you must invest like 25-30 Primal Fire making bots. This moment in leatherworking is cheaper, because you can skill up from 350 to 375 just making drums, that you or your guildies are gonna use in ur raiding days.

You only need 350 LW skill to use drums of battle. Just saying, you don't need to level it all the way up, which makes it alot easier.

Unless there is a Tank ring from M'uru or Kil'jaeden that hasn't been seen then there are indeed no new Tanking Rings in the patch, nor are there any craftable items for Tanks with the exception of the Engineering Helm.

Jewelcrafting offers +3 Stamina and +2 Defense from [Falling Star] and [Facet of Eternity] so if you are truly min-maxing you could simply make 20+ of each JC only gem, drop JC'ing and still have "exclusive" gems to put in future gear.

My assumption is that Blizzard is attempting to enable Warriors to get over the abrupt -20% dodge penalty they suffer in Sunwell, but what the developers don't quite seem to understand is the fact that avoidance doesn't exist when you are stunned. But don't even get me started on the issues behind avoidance and rage--I'm sure it's been mentioned time and time again on these forums.

Has there been any good data that I have missed on the parry chances of trash mobs?

Parry is point-for-point superior to hit as long as you aren't already past the cap, and without combing through the sunwell loot tables, I'm assuming that the very high expertise rating needed to eliminate parries on bosses is going to be pretty difficult to reach. However, if trash mobs are only hanging out at ~5% parry, its going to be very easy to cap out expertise in new gear, which means its definitely beneficial to have a trash set that subs out expertise for hit where it fits well.

Are there any good, or even large-sample anecdotal, ideas of the kind of parry chances we see on 70/71/72 trash mobs?

Does anyone know if there is an existing formula to find out how much avoidance to wear w/o rage starving yourself?

Example: Say I configure my gear for Gorefiend. I want to enter his swing timer and how much he hits for. How much he hits for will determine how much rage I get in return. Then I want to add avoidance %'s until it's so high that he doesn't hit me to generate rage to spam heroic strike. Does this exist or do I need to create it?

It would be awesome to say Gorefiend = X% avoidance so stam expertise + stam after you reach this amount in order to not be out of rage.

The end goal is to punch out as much TPS while still helping conserve healers mana.
/Thoughts?

I didn't see this mentioned in the OP's index and I hope it's the right place to ask, how exactly does one dps as a prot warrior?

I assume because of one handed weapon specialization that DW'ing is the way to go, but other than that I'm lost. Do you gear for hit, or crit, or AP or what? Battle Stance or Berserker Stance? I'm a little weary of Berserker stance because many of the times you'd need to dps (Aran, Delrissa, etc.) you will still be taking damage, making it that much more difficult on the healers. But then again berserker stance is what gives us access to whirlwind and the like - and speaking of abilities, are we to simply spam devastate, whirlwind whenever it's off cool down, and heroic strike once when we have rage to spare?

I think you have the right idea, equip your fury gear and don't worry about the 10% more damage you're taking. I guess it's worth mentioning that if you're the only warrior (such as on OT in ZA/Kara) that you should still keep up demo and tclap.

Need some advise, my guild has done somewhat of an 180 at Brutallus, instead of going with two ferals they are now gonna go with feral + prot which means I'll step in as tank. Since I prepared to go DPS my prot preperations have been somewhat lacking and I need some last minute suggestions.

I am going to treat it as a avoidance fight but how much health should I aim for? 21-22k seems to be a somewhat healthy ammount.

Are there any easy avoidance to collect? With 5 Illidain kills behind us I am still lacking Faceplate, Myrmidons and Band of the Abyssal Lord from Black Temple (just never droped). So far my prepartions includes socketing Praetorians and Onslaught Handguards with a total of 4x 8 dodge gems. Enchanting 12 dodge instead of Agility on cloak and for trinkets I'm going to chose Moroes + SMI.

My stomp rotation will be Moroes -> Last Stand -> SMI + Seed to give myself that extra edge.

I will go with agility + armor elixirs and of course chain poting stoneshields.

Obtainaing as much mitigation as possible is a good idea, however, I wouldn't suggest gemming into it so heavily at the loss of stamina. When stomped, Brutallus will hit you for 10-12k a pop, and you'll need the health to survive two unmitigated hits. Your goal should be 23-24k fully buffed before you start thinking about dodge gems.

The 12 dodge enchant for agility is a good move though.

Edit: Commendation of Kael'thas is a life-saving trinket. I would definitly use it instead of Moroes on this fight. If you haven't farmed one up yet, get on it!

Good luck with the kill!

23-24k? Seems high, stomp + oh+ mh is rougly 22k if I'm not mistaken, I guess I adjust my gear a bit once there to safely cover those three attacks.

I do got the Commendation, I am just madly in love with how powerful clicky trinkets seems to be in this fight. Still, guess I'll just have to get a feel on what's helping me the most.

Suggesting Commendation over Moroes is exceptionally bad advice. If you're going to use Commendation, use it over Shadowmoon Insignia.

21k hp fully raid buffed is fine. Assuming you're completely buffed and the boss is debuffed, you can survive during stomp easily assuming you get healed. Properly staggering timers as you have planned is a natural move as well.

So.

I have a question and I haven't been able to find a decent place to put it, so I thought I'd put it here since the prot warrior would be using it.

Has anyone run the actual math on Gift of Arthas andit's effects in 25man raids in TBC?

I think a flask has superior "time to live" to armor + agility elixirs. (I've definitely had times where my health dips below 500, only to have two 8k heals land a fraction of a second later.) From my personal experience, I'd recommend to continue to gem 15 stam. Especially if you're using 8 dodge rating gems... If your guild isn't gonna let you use Spinals, all the more reason to continue use those epic stam gems. I'd also second the nomination above for [Commendation of Kael'thas]. It procs like mad in this encounter. It's very likely you'll get a proc every time you're tanking.

My guild uses two warrior tanks, and I pretty wear my normal "boss tanking" set... (Check armory if interested.) I'm at 22500 life fully buffed, without an imp since my guild decided to bring all destro locks for the extra DPS. We got our first kill last night, so I can attest that it's very possible using two warrior tanks. (Despite some rumors that you need ferals.)

Over the course of the fight, assuming you're using a 2 tank strategy (feral + prot), you're gonna be taking 5/6 stomps. So, I think that perhaps a bit more CD usage planning would be ideal. Like for me I use: SMI -> Seed -> last stand -> SMI+seed -> SW. (Using shield wall on the final stomp.) It's also important to note you'll only be tanking for 36 second intervals. So, assuming you trust your buddy tank, you can pop your seeds early (say 6 seconds in), and have them last not only for the stomp, but throughout nearly your whole tanking phase. Every little bit helps.

Using seeds and last stand preemptively should be a no-brainer really. Also I went with Scarab of Displacement and Moroes' to have two avoidance clickies. Of course I still haven't seen a commendation drop, so this might change if I can be bothered to run HC MgT again, pity I hate that stupid instance so much.
Agility and armor elixirs should be better than a flask but you'll need quite some of those, while a flask lasts for 2 hours whatever happens and is not that much weaker. So if you have an unlimited suplly of elixirs go with those, if not just drink two or three flasks for a night of attempts.

I'm tanking this as a Protection Warrior with a Feral counterpart. I've noted mention of tanking for 36-second cycles.

What's the timer on Stomp? We often found at the 4th or 5th Stomp the Tank would taunt immediately as Stomp was about to hit and thus the healers where both having to swap tanks and heal over Stomp at the same time.

Currently we taunt after the 3rd Slash and let healers watch the Stomp timers but I feel this can be done better.

You can avoid a good number of Stomps by letting it land on the previous tank and taunting right after.
The very first Stomp happens between the 2nd and 3rd Slash, you can just switch tanks after that since there is no reason to wait for the 3rd Slash at the start of the fight. The Stomp CD is roughly 30-33 seconds, so you will be tanking full duration Stomps further into the fight, but later on you can taunt them off again. Just watch the cooldown and do it when possible instead of blindly taunting after the Meteor Slash every time.

That's what we are considering doing just wondered if there was a more discernable pattern to it that we could plan for.
I'll certainly swith to Taunting after the first Stomp (before Slash 3) at the start and look for other opportunities to do so later in the fight.

Well obviously you cannot taunt off every stomp, you have to taunt on meteor slashes, because a fourth slash will be too much damage. You can do this two ways: either taunt after the third meteor slash lands on the other tank, or taunt just as the debuff wears off you and your soak group. We do this latter and it has worked alright. The taunts are predictable and announced usually 10-5-2 secs in advance by the tank doing the taunting. We might even have to taunt one less time, not sure about that. First two taunts are of course on the first two stomps as there is no need to wait on the debuff yet.
Another thing is that the tank in waiting will always announce upcoming stomps and taunts because he has the most free time. Burn healers will announce if they need backup and also usually if someone needs to move in our out of a soak group because of burn.

I'm currently concerned about my block value. (The one that gets us near druid tanking abilities). I always tried to get my block value ~500 but currently its not possible any more without losing to much armor or stamina. What do you think about block value?

The only fight I can think of that prioritizes block value is RoS P1. Everywhere else choose your gear by compairing the various items while taking into account the fight's requirements. If more armor and stamina give you better survivability than BV, use those items. If more expertise and/hit give you greater threat than BV, use those. There are no magic numbers aside from 490+ defense and aiming for X of a given stat is pointless.
