Sorry to jump in, but I have a question about Hydross resist set:
I'm almost complete, minus the neck piece and some random small things. But my defense falls so far below 490 I'm confused as to how you warriors keep above 490. I equipted and old shield and the maiden gloves for extra defense rating at the cost of my epeen, but I'm struggling hardcore with this defense rating. Can someone give me a quick overview of what you all do to keep the def. rating up? thx
The extra +16 Defense helps a bit and then as above poster said wear a couple high defense trinkets (if you manage to kill hydross the trinket off him is ungodly for keeping you above defense cap). The new steelweave enchant to cloak would also be good if you are in this level of progression since defense can still be an issue.
12 defense rating is less pure avoidance than 12 dodge rating. It's ~0.6% avoidance on the defense enchant vs ~0.64% on the dodge enchant.
Block is not avoidance, it's mitigation. Miss, dodge and parry are avoidance. Block only becomes avoidance when your block value is greater than the damage you would take when you get hit. You won't encounter very many progression fights where that happens.
There is some value in the enchant if you're looking to become passively crush or crit immune, but it's an inferior avoidance enchant.
maybe the enchant wasnt made for warriors in the first place.
for me, as a protection paladin its superior to +12 dodge since
its easier to reach avoidance+block+holyshield > 127,4 (sunwell)
with it - vital for eredar twins tanking

You can also utilize resilience pieces to reach the crit cap in resist gear. For instance [Signet of Eternal Life] from ZA, or [Talisman of the Alliance] (or horde if you're horde) can go a long way towards helping you reach the uncrittable cap. You can also get like the resilience to chest enchant, and the new SSO head enchant to push it even closer. I remember when we first did Hydross, I had to use the PVP shield (merc glad shield wall) with the resilience chest enchant and felsteel gloves socketed with defense in order to hit the cap. If you're getting really close, you can also count on the defense rating from the fortification flask.
Edit: Just remembered, when we lost an Illidan fire resist tank, we made a paladin use [Gladiator's Libram of Justice] and keep it up on the new (lesser geared) tank. Every little bit helps!
I believe the total effective armor on the Azzinoth is higher with the proc. The Sword Brekaer's has 51 more block value. The red socket, if gemmed for agi+ stam would still come to less avoidance and stam than the Azzinoth, and gemmed for pure avoidance would only come to about .2% more avoidance than azzinoth, with still less stamina. I'm leaning towards Sword Breaker's, though the slight upgrade is painful for the look change.
Edit: I guess I should also mention that I am equally torn on cloaks. Slikk's seems best for Brutallus, though Pepe and eventually Crimson are more all-around cloaks.
Slikk's and Phoenix Wing = Avoidance
Crimson and Pepe = Threat
ATM I use Slikk's or Pepe because at this level armor starts becoming more effective. I don't have access to Crimson Paragon yet but I am not so sure I will switch even then...I am going to be hitting the expertise cap fairly quickly with the boots and belt from t6, so I may use Pepe's for the hit rating. Not sure yet though and probably depends on the fight.
I use Crimson Paragon on anything that favors higher stam a bit more (Kalecgos, Felmyst, Twins), and Slikks on anything that raw mitigation/avoidance pays off more. (Brutallus)
For shields, I assumed the raw armor and block value upgrade from Sword Breaker's over Azzinoth was an obvious choice. It's a fairly significant raw mitigation upgrade in those two ways. Also, the Azzinoth proc is extremely rare and largely useless, sadly.
I'm with Xaviera on the shields. Cloaks are a bit more complicated for me though. For a human warrior, the expertise cap is really close and has to be considered in choosing neck and cloak pieces. Also with sacrolash crushing, I think I'll go with slikk's even after I have the crimson paragon's cover. Kalecgos and felmyst might favor high stamina, but the +hit on pepe's is also a good stat for them. All in all this new cloak (and the same for the amulet from brutallus) is a bit lackluster in my opinion. They are good pieces surely, but not ultimate tanking items - they upgarde the niche of max stamina pieces and provide options to reach the expertise cap.
On the subject of gems, I've been thinking much on how to gem for avoidance and if I should gem for +hit in the same pieces. For the latter, threat doesn't seem a problem yet in any fight. There is either no real threat cap on the DPS (Kalec and the twins easier version), I have unlimited rage (Brutallus) or I can wear at least some pieces from my threat set (Felmyst). The abundance of expertise on best in slot avoidance gear also helps of course.
In gemming for avoidance though I cannot decide how best to proceed. Finally we have blue sockets (more than half) in our gear. Almost all socket boni are +stamina too, much better than parry rating or some such crap. So my first assumption is that it's good practice to get every socket bonus. The dilemma I'm facing is this: should I use single coloured gems (15 sta, 10 dodge, 10 def) or should I use double coloured ones, maybe a mix of both. My gut feeling is to put green gems (+5def +7sta) in blue and yellow sockets and red gems (+10 dodge) in red sockets. Unfortunately I too am a stamina whore and giving up +15 stamina gems in all those nice blue sockets makes me cringe inside; but with the abundance of blue sockets, putting avoidance gems in only red and yellow sockets (even using red and yellow gems) will not amount to much.

To me, blues are always +15. I use both the combo stam/def gem and straight yellow in yellow sockets, I think I am going to use mostly stam/def gems in yellows going forward. Reds are dodge spinels, although I threw one of the stam/dodge non-epics in my boots as a temp thing (it was going to be a couple days before I could get the spinel), and just decided to leave it. Although I wish they had an epic version of the cut.
I understand stacking full avoidance is great sometimes, but I am still having stamina withdrawl for now, and the combo gems are just to make myself feel better.
I'm pretty sure that works just like having the ability itself on your actionbar.
I'm looking for a macro that works so that I can spam my heroic strike button without turning off heroic strike.

Spamming heroic strike does not turn off heroic strike if it's already in queue.
In fact, the only way to disable a heroic strike cast is to press escape.

I'm pretty sure it does, since 2.2(??). I don't believe it's UI bug. If you spam HS and not time it with your auto-attack you will see it flashing out. I can't see why they changed that.
You can spam HS and your next swing will always be Heroic Strike. That's why spamming it is so good. Xav is right on canceling it. When people say "spam HS to make your WF into HS" that's exactly what they mean.

Yes, exactly. You can test the whole "hitting HS while it's already queued turns off HS" thing in about 10 seconds ingame. There's a reason why warriors hopefully mash their heroic strike hotkey like a machinegun in any infinite rage scenario while they've also got windfury.

Yup.
/stopcasting turns off heroic strike if you want to turn it off in a macro, otherwise it stays on.
I was in Mount Hyjal last night and was testing my "trash" outfit. I have heard dodge/parry numbers on 70-72 trash being anywhere from 5.6 to 6.5%. My trash outfit (the one I am currently wearing) has 28 expertise total for a reduction of 7% to dodge and parry. I assumed that I would not have any dodges or parries with this outfit. From my WWS reports on the trash, I noticed 3 parries and 1 dodge over the course of the night.

I believe in 2.3 there was a push to create this toggle behavior while spamming the button in the UI community for one reason or another. Shortly thereafter, it was added to the game, but the default setting was the current "always on" style that so many warriors are familiar with. I would have to go back and take a look at the patch notes, but I believe there was a set of /console commands added to create the on/off toggle behavior that has been talked about in this post.
