Quick little reference guide for gear drops in WotLK. I'm going to leave out PvP gear because it typically isn't suited to a Protection Warrior, but if there's a must-have piece of gear or two from it I may add it later on down the line. Split up by slot/origin and arranged lowest ilvl->highest ilvl. I'm sure there will be things I miss, so please feel free to add, will edit them in as soon as I see them. Formatting and organization tips greatly appreciated.

I would just add a quick link to the reputations - AD rep, WA + EB rep look pretty significant for tanking, as their items are excellent start pieces.

), but I'd like to make a seperate section for a jump-start guide into tanking gear of some sort, as it were. I just have to figure out how to do it first.

The Wyrmrest Accord items I think in particular are great for starter tank items. Belt, back, and chest are great items. It's probably the first reputation I think tanks in particular would want to get up there.

After a once over of this list, the underwhelming selection of trinkets is the first thing my attention drifted towards. Which two are most of you leaning towards? [Repelling Charge] seems like a standout choice but beyond that I can't come to a conclusive decision. [Essence of Gossamer] in particular would be situationally interesting depending on its proc rate.

Well, it looks pretty straightforward to me. There's no clear two winners because, for the most part, they're just raw stat items. 3k health clicky isn't really all that and a bag of chips, nor are the two dodge rating clickies (7/10% before diminishing returns is what I'd call a bit limp at best). So I'd get all the different types, and swap out depending on the fight and the type of damage.

Just a small note for James and those reading the thread. There was mention of having BoE's drop on Heroics and even raids. I forget the reasoning. It obviously leads to more accessible epics for those who can't raid/those who are sat out. I bring this up about the BoE items with "trash???" listed as their source, and as a reminder to those like myself who always assume the best items in life are BoP. If I recall correctly, bosses in raids can drop additional items that are BoE and equivalent item level, etc. So, the same concept wouldn't be a stretch for heroic bosses.

My point: They've taken the concept of things like rare patterns from specific instances (and even mobs; see: leveling blacksmithing in TBC) and expanded on it. So, keep an eye out at the Auction House if you're desperate. Also, be prepared to fight the need/greed "but we can sell it I don't care if it's an upgrade for you" fights on some of these items whilst in PuGs.

Perhaps make a second listing of potential threat gear? For trinkets especially, since those seem to be the only slots I have to spare these days (read: before the expansion) for content that isn't "wear dps set" easy.

I've actually been debating that. I've typically avoided putting items with primarily DPS stats on them (save for [Engraved Chestplate of Eck] due to the abnormally high stamina and two sockets), but from what I can tell capping out hit and expertise is going to be anything but easy in entry level gear. It may be worth it to reference them for threat sets, but I don't want to get too out of hand with primarily DPS gear in the list. I'll probably add them later on tonight during the queue-dance, and seperate out a list of BoE items to keep a look out for on the AH.

Can enchants for each part go in the list too? Personally I'm missing a stamina enchant on shield and stamina enchant on bracer. Don't really know what to go for the respective parts anymore. There's defense on bracer I think and 6 to all stats. And then there's 20 defense rating on shield. Or maybe stamina isnt the stat to end all stats anymore? Or atleast not as important til new raids appear?

Yeah, from what I can see, there is not a new stam enchant in either slot. It's the main reason I kept LW over BS. 90 stam to bracers is pretty nice.

I'm not sure what everyone else thinks but right now this seems to be an easy to obtain, fairly useful trinket. The sockets give it a good amount of flexability and if you just stack stam you can break 100 stam on a trinket with a moroes trinket effect every minute (obviously a bit reduced dodge % at 70 but still 300 isn't anything to sneeze at)

If I was a JC, I would be using that all the time. I have a feeling it will be replaced in the next set of content, but that and a Thaddius 10 man trinket is a nice setup IMO.

The weird thing is that there's stuff like this [Scroll of Enchant Shield - Exceptional Stamina] but no associating enchant for it. I'm guessing it'll be added later though. And 12stamina (old enchant) vs a leatherworker on 90stamina is kinda enormous.

The names just aren't matching up at times. Either they are still wonky in the MPQ files or just in wowhead's database. And yes, barcers have by far the largest disparity. Most of those enchants are level 70.

What I mean is that it's not a proper enchanting spell yet. It's under uncategorized spells, which I guess means it's not on a trainer or anything yet and under a profession. I'm guessing they forgot to put it on the enchanting vendor (the one that trades shards for formulas) just like they forgot to make some citrine or whatever drop at the start of TBC.
