Can someone explain something to me? Why is the "conventional" wisdom on the official forums right now to wait until 30 rage to use SD procs? It doesn't make a lot of sense to me since the DPR drops off drastically after 10 rage, and it seems like you'd just end up wasting procs that way. I'm just curious how we got from "all the good warriors dump rage before using SD" when it was uncapped to "all the good warriors use as much rage as possible for SD" now.

Because now you can count on refilling your rage bar by the next GCD.

So at 10 rage it's better to waste an entire GCD rather than use a 10 rage execute? I have a hard time believing that's the case, but I'm not an expert.

edit: Excuse me. I misinterpreted your first question. I don't see any reason to wait before using an SD.

You would want to wait if you have other alternatives that do as much or more damage for that GCD. Arms is usually GCD limited so you're going to want to be as efficient as possible about how you use them. If you were rage limited, you'd care a lot more about DPR. However, in this case the only thing waiting costs you is a potential second proc on the next swing (and the probability of that happening is only 9%, the compound probability of 2 procs in a row is less than 1%). That's a relatively low opportunity cost.
I decided I want to go back to arms, but I have some tough choices to make. I have been trying to read through the info here but I am in extremely poor health and have a hard time doing that, so I hope you will forgive me if my question is more obvious than it seems to me.
I can use the Jawbone for the swing speed or Inevitable Defeat to almost perfectly expertise cap. If I go with the Jawbone, I can take 1/2 weapon mastery to go from 5.75% to slightly over my target 6.5% in exchange for 1 point in imp execute.

What is optimal here?
The difference between those maces is worth more than one point in imp execute. Go with the Jawbone.
I have spend 2-3 hours to test Arms on Boss dumy yesterday and for 6 min fight i got folowing results:
4240 DPS
21% Mele
18% execute
18% Overpower
16% MS
11% Deep Wounds
9% Rend
4% Slam
3% WW form Bladestorm
I think 4% slam dmg from overall is to low! Did i need more practise with rotation?
70% of time i have to much rage, but no free GCD!

HS rage dump? You never used it?
And yes the rotation needs a bit more practice, considering it needs a lot more attention to rend, procs and so on.
I want to know though... should slam be timed to be immediately after the melee swing? Is that the optimal approach to slamming? Or should it be done whenever?
I think there is some bug with dual specc - every time when i respec from fury to arms - there is a 17 points left and i must put them again! Now - i have 53 points spent in arms - i have MS on butons and spell book, but i dont have it in talent tree, but have 3 points in imp.MS!
Before patch my character screen shows me with TGr and 2xBetrayer - 1850-2050 dmg! With 4328 AP unbufed
And now - 2250-2750 with 1xBetreyer and arms build, 3390 AP?
There is a problem with the talent-trees, yes. MS / Imp ms doesn`t show up for me either, but it says 3 points in imp ms even though it`s grayed out.
I`m very curious about your dps on the dummy. Is this the highest-level one? I tinkered with it yesterday and saw a good dps-increase from old 2400ish to 2900 now, but 4350? That`s so much higher than me I can`t even begin to ponder what I`m doing wrong or you are hitting (critters?)
And queue up a HS if you`ve got say 70 rage right before a white-hit. I`m working on it, and sometimes I get a little carried away and starve myself from using 2 gcd pr swing, but I figure it`s worth the practicing.
I definitly felt arms being boosted though. Regemmed arp wherever I could, got 20ish% arp from gemming / gear + 10% from stance + 1-2% from food, and I somehow ended up doing more damage than our ret-pala and furywarrior, both sporting betrayers while I`m running with cryptfiends. Arp + changes to arms seem to have made it very usable in pve, finally.
Maybe the problem is that i have tested on Boss Dummy - the dummy has 1 life - so maybe game doesnt recognise SD execute and normal executes and the rule for 30 rage limitation for SD doesnt apply (i have some lucky 23000 executes with GT proc).... - is that posible?
I am sure that i use only SD procs and have no buffs and dummy has no debuffs exept mine....
Hm, ill start a new test on Heroic 80lvl dummy to be sure.......
I have a problem understanding how useful/powerful ArP is, maybe you could help me with this:
Landsouls Spreadsheet gives me the following SEP:
STR: 1,0000
ARP: 0,8803
I thought ArP would be the best Stat with 3.1.
In the Official Warrior Forum (EU) everyone says gemming ArP instead of Str in every slot is the best.
Hamburglar also writes a bit above that he regemmed with ArP too.
But my Spreadsheet tells me the opposite.
Should I believe the sheet?
I also found out, that there is some sort of threshold, where ArP-SEP exceeds the 1,0000 and becomes stronger than Str.
But I could´nt figure out when and why this threshold is reached and on which stat-changes it depends on.
It doesn´t come with a significant gain/loss of Str or Crit nor does Hit-Cap and Exp-Cap have any effect on it.
Maybe you know?
All of you would be a great help with every hint you could give me!
I considered a while if it would be better to post this in Landsouls-Thread, but I thought its not a matter of technical issue with his sheet, but a theorycraft question.
Thanks so long and I have to apologize for my bad English - I did my best
Here the most important stats, so you don´t have to go looking for it - all unbuffed:
Str: 1138 / AP: 3568
Hit : 274 (8,36%)
Crit: 37,96% (Battlestance)
ExP: 22 (5,5% + 1% Weapon Mastery)
ArP: 17,21% (refering the Spreadsheet - no idea if this allready includes the 10% of Battle Stance)
Haste: 167 (5,09%)
Ah, a swing timer problem in 3.1.
I used LD50_abar to time my executes and watch my slams, anyone else noticed slam now resets the swing timer on those add ons again? Does anyone have any alternatives that swing timer? Quartz fails once again, it resets the swing timer as well after you slam.
ArP is not working correctly atm. It is unclear if this is intended or not, but right now it is functioning at 81% of what the stated value on your character sheet is. Thus, I wouldn't be gemming for ArP. Keep your Strength. However, I believe Landsoul's spreadsheet is showing ArP working as it was "supposed" to work in 3.1 at a full 100%.
I just switched over to Arms since I've heard that the patch killed TG. I've never been Arms for PvE so, I'm probably asking some nub questions, but bear with me. After asking around on forums and in-game, people have been giving me some conflicting answers, so I'm hoping to clear them up here.
1. Do I use Slam? If so, when?
2. Same question, but for HS.
3. ArP gems or Str gems?
4. Is there a set rotation? Or do I just keep MS and BS on cooldown, then use Rend, OP, and Execute when they come up?
Last night in Ulduar I oberved something I felt to be odd. My 3/3 Taste for Bkoos failed to proc at all twice. The Rend ran it's course and TfB never procc'd. Is that working correctly? Seems odd and I made sure that the target wasn't shielded or anything and I did not see any reason why this would happen? Has Blizzard released any comments regarding when or if ArP might be fixed?

When you don't need to reapply Rend, can't Overpower or Execute and MS is on CD.
2. Same question, but for HS.
Primarily you don't, unless you're sitting on loads and loads of Rage. It's not a key part of the damage rotation like it was for Fury.
3. ArP gems or Str gems?
I gemmed for ArP, but that was probably a mistake since ArP still seems to be less effective than it should be (mentioned a few other times in these posts).
4. Is there a set rotation? Or do I just keep MS and BS on cooldown, then use Rend, OP, and Execute when they come up?
MS is actually 4th in your priority list.
1) Applying Rend as required.
2) Overpower.
3) SD Execute.
4) Mortal Strike
5) Slam.
You can and should switch that around slightly if a proc is about to expire (i.e. SD is about to go, toss that before Overpower if that just procced) but it's your normal set of priorities.
Doesn't OP come after SD since the 3.1 change to TfB? Since you don't have to worry about wasting OP procs from successive rend ticks, or ticks from multiple rends?

Not only is it bugged as you state and less effective than we believe it should be, if you have almost no ArPen gear it's not all that valuable to gem it. Its value increases with the more ArPen you have to begin with. You'll notice the SEP value of it go up in the Spreadsheet as well.
So if you don't have much ArPen gear to begin with, switching out all your gems for new ArPen ones is probably not a good idea. I would double check the spreadsheet for what case you might be in. Or, it may only be a marginal DPS upgrade compared to what your current set up is now, in which case it might be better to wait until you have more passive ArPen from upgrades and then look into upgrading your gems.

Same issue here. I haven't heard anything from blizzard about this.

Yeah, I tend to avoid the spreadsheet since it requires me to reboot and switch installs as there's no working OpenOffice version anymore. I'll play with it in a bit, but it's worth mentioning that I had quite a bit of ArP on my gear pre-gemming; I think I'm at about 460 now unbuffed, which should be past the crossover point even with the worse ArP.

That's entirely possible, yes. I should probably switch the two.
