Official 3.1 changes and discussion

The 3.1 PTR is now online, and patch notes have been released.

Finalized Patch Notes


# Battle Stance: Now increases armor penetration by 10%.
# Berserker Stance: Now increases damage taken by 5%.
# Charge: Duration of stun effect now lasts 1.5 seconds. This effect no longer has diminishing returns.
# Defensive Stance: Now reduces damage caused by the warrior by 5% (previously 10%).
# Disarm: This ability now disarms ranged weapons as well.
# Heroic Throw missile speed increased.
# Intimidating Shout: Cooldown reduced to 2 minutes.
# Shattering Throw: This new warrior ability, trainable at level 71, deals damage the same as Heroic Throw, but also causes the victim’s armor to be reduced by 20% for 10 seconds (stacking with Sunder Armor). If the victim is immune, it will remove that immunity instead of dealing damage and reducing armor. Costs 25 rage. Only useable in Battle Stance. 5-minute cooldown.
# Talents


* Arms

o Blood Frenzy improved to 2/4% increased damage.
o Deep Wounds: The damage done by this talent no longer receives modifications from effects that increase or decrease damage done by a percentage. The base weapon damage used in the calculation will still be modified by those effects.
o Improved Intercept and Weapon Mastery have once again swapped places in the talent tree.
o New Talent: Juggernaut: Grants the warrior the ability to Charge while in combat. Critical strike chance of next Slam or Mortal Strike increased by 100% following Charge.
o Taste for Blood: Will now proc 33/66/100% of the time with a 6-second cooldown.
o Unrelenting Assault: Now also increases the damage of Overpower and Revenge by 10/20%, and causes Overpower (when used to attack a casting target) to decrease the effectiveness of all the target’s non-physical damage and healing by 25/50% for 6 seconds. Tooltip and visual updated.

* Fury

o Improved Berserker Stance: Now increases strength by 4/8/12/16/20% while in Berserker Stance.
o Titan’s Grip: While you have a two-handed weapon equipped in one hand, your physical damage done is reduced by 10%.

* Protection

o Last Stand: Cooldown reduced to 3 minutes.
o Warbringer: Now also allows Intervene and Intercept to be used in any stance.

Glyph changes and additions:

# Glyph of Barbaric Insults: Increases threat on Mocking Blow by 100%.
# Glyph of Bladestorm: Reduces the cooldown on Bladestorm by 15 seconds.
# Glyph of Enraged Regeneration: Your Enraged Regeneration ability heals for an additional 10% of your health over its duration.
# Glyph of Last Stand: Now reduces the cooldown of Last Stand by 60 seconds. The penalty on maximum health gained has been removed.
# Glyph of Overpower: Now provides 100% chance on all parries.
# Glyph of Shield Wall: Reduces the cooldown on Shield Wall by 3 min, but Shield Wall now only reduces damage taken by 40%.
# Glyph of Shockwave: Reduces the cooldown on Shockwave by 3 seconds.
# Glyph of Spell Reflection: Reduces the cooldown on Spell Reflection by 1 second.
# Glyph of Sweeping Strikes: Now makes Sweeping Strikes cost 0 rage.
# Glyph of Vigilance: Your Vigilance ability transfers an additional 5% of your target's threat to you.

Bug fixes:

*
o Concussion Blow: Now properly triggers a 1.5 second global cooldown.
o Damage Shield: Fixed a bug which caused this ability to benefit from Recklessness.
o Enrage: This ability can no longer be triggered by environmental damage.
o Enraged Regeneration: While this is active, the warrior is blocked from using abilities that trigger being enraged (which would do nothing and waste the cooldowns).
o Improved Revenge: This talent will now increase the damage done by Revenge by the proper amount.
o Rend: Now does correct damage with heirloom weapons. In addition, low ranks of this ability will no longer incorrectly gain a damage bonus against targets above 75% health.
o Slam: Slam will no longer sometimes show 2 miss messages.

Original build

Classes: General


* Hysteria, Tricks of the Trade, Enrage, Wrecking Crew, Death Wish, Arcane Power, Owlkin Frenzy, Beast Within, Avenging Wrath and Hysteria damage bonuses no longer stack together.

Warrior:

Arms
* Blood Frenzy improved to 2/4% increased damage.
* Heroic Throw missile speed increased.

Undocumented changes:

Arms
* Wrecking Crew (Tier 10) now states that it no longer stacks with enrage.
* Blood Frenzy (Tier 9) now increases all physical damage done to the target by 2/4%. (Previously was 1/2%)

Fury
* Titan's Grip (Tier 11) now reduces physical damage you deal by 10%.

Glyph additions and changes:

* Glyph of Heroic Strike -- Increases the critical strike chance of Heroic Strike by 5%. (Old: You gain 10 rage when you critically strike with your Heroic Strike ability.)
* Glyph of Barbaric Insults -- Your Mocking Blow ability generates 100% additional threat. (Old: Your Mocking Blow ability also taunts the target.)
* Glyph of Sweeping Strikes -- Reduces the rage cost of your Sweeping Strikes ability by 100%. (Old: You generate 30 rage over 12 sec when you use your Sweeping Strikes ability.)
* Glyph of Overpower -- Adds a 100% chance to enable your Overpower when your attacks are parried. (Old: 50%)
* Glyph of Bladestorm *new* -- Reduces the cooldown on Bladestorm by 15 sec.
* Glyph of Shockwave *new* -- Reduces the cooldown on Shockwave by 3 sec.
* Glyph of Vigilance *new* -- Your Vigilance ability transfers an additional 5% of your target's threat to you.
* Glyph of Enraged Regeneration *new* -- Your Enraged Regeneration ability heals for an additional 10% of your health over its duration.
* Glyph of Spell Reflection *new* -- Reduces the cooldown on Spell Reflection by 1 sec.
* Glyph of Shield Wall *new* -- Reduces the cooldown on Shield Wall by 3 min, but Shield Wall now only reduces damage taken by 40%.

Build 9658

Arms

* Battle Stance now increase the armor penetration of all your attacks by 10%.
* Shattering Throw *New Skill* - Throws your weapon at the enemy causing [ 50% of AP + 12 ] damage (based on attack power), reducing the armor on the target by 20% for 10 sec, and removing any invulnerabilities. 25 Rage, 30 yd range, 1.5 sec cast, 5 min cooldown
* Taste for Blood: Will now proc 33%/66%/100% of the time with a 6 second cooldown. (This is listed in the patch notes but does not appear to be implemented.)

Fury

* Berserker Stance now increase all damage taken by 5% (Down from 10%)
* Intimidating Shout cooldown has been lowered from 3 min to 2 min.

Protection

* Defensive Stance now reduces damage caused by 5%. (Down from 10%)
* Disarm now disarm the enemy's main hand and ranged weapons.

Glyphs changes:

* Glyph of Shield Wall -- Reduces the cooldown on Shield Wall by 2 min (down from 3 min), but Shield Wall now only reduces damage taken by 40%.
* Glyph of Last Stand -- Reduces the cooldown of your Last Stand ability by 60 sec (down from 90 sec), but also reduces the maximum health gained by 10%.

Build 9684

Arms

* Taste for Blood now gives you a 33/66/100% chance of allowing the use of your Overpower ability for 5 secs whenever your Rend ability causes damage. This talent will not occur more than once every 6 sec.

Fury

* Titan's Grip now reduces your physical damage done by 10% when dual-wielding two-handed weapons.

Glyphs:

* Glyph of Heroic Strike - You gain 10 rage when you critically strike with your Heroic Strike ability. (Old - Increases the critical strike chance of Heroic Strike by 5%.)
* Glyph of Last Stand - Reduces the cooldown of your Last Stand ability by 1 min. (Old - Also reduced the maximum health gained by 10%.)

Build 9704


Arms

* Unrelenting Assault now Reduces the cooldown of your Overpower and Revenge abilities by 2 secs and increases the damage done by both abilities by 10/20%. In addition, if you strike a player with Overpower while they are casting, their magical damage and healing will be reduced by 25/50 for 6 sec.
* Weapon Mastery has been moved from Fury (Tier 5) to Arms (Tier 6)
* Juggernaut *New Talent* (Tier 8 ) - Your Charge ability is now usable while in combat.
* Improved Intercept was moved from Arms (Tier 6) to Fury (Tier 5)


Fury

* Titan's Grip wording has been changed: While you have a two-handed weapon equipped in one hand, your physical damage done is reduced by 10%.
* Weapon Mastery has been moved from Fury (Tier 5) to Arms (Tier 6)

Build 9722

Arms

* Rend (Rank 1) and Rend (Rank 2) had their damage slightly increased.
* Juggernaut has been changed to : Your Charge ability is now usable while in combat. Following a Charge, your next Slam ability has an additional 100% chance to critically hit if used within 10 sec.
* Taste for Blood now give you a chance to allow the use of your Overpower ability for 9 sec. (Up from 5 secs)

Fury

* Intimidating Shout range has been reduced from 10 to 8 yards.
* Improved Berserker Stance now increases strength by 3/6/9/12/15% instead of increasing attack power by 2/4/6/8/10%

Protection

* Warbringer now also affects Intercept and Intevene
* Improved Spell Reflection now works on the 2/4 closest party members within 20 yards.

Build 9733

Arms

* Shattering Throw will now reduce the armor on the target by 20% for 10 sec or remove any invulnerabilities. (Old - reduced armor AND removed any invulnerabilities)
* Bladestorm will now instantly Whirlwind up to 4 nearby targets.
* Juggernaut now affects both Slam and Mortal Strike

Fury

* Improved Berserker Stance now increases strength by 4/8/12/16/20%. (Up from 3/6/9/12/15%)

Protection

* Improved Defensive Stance now increases Physical damage caused by 5/10% for 12 sec. (Old - melee damage)


I hope we may keep this thread open over the next few weeks to condense the ever-changing status of the PTRs so that we don't clutter up the usual Arms, Fury, and Protection discussion threads with PTR discussion.

lol. The crysquad is already at it on the blizz forums.

It will be interesting to see the reasoning behind the nerf. Is the dps gear really that good in Uldar that they feel the need to nerf fury?

I really like how they Ninja'd the 10% physical dmg nerf in there. Not in the Patch Notes, and no warning, I guess they didn't want to hear the QQ until the last possible moment. I don't envy the Devs monitoring the PTR Forums.

I had a feeling we would be getting a nerf in this upcoming patch. Being that its arguably the most gear dependant spec of the most gear dependant class. Our Dmg is currently very good, and good players can top the meters with current gear. I am sure Blizz was concerned with what the Dmg would look like once we were in full Ulduar Gear. I just hope 10% off the top isn't going to be to much. We will see what happens during the testing.

Warriors already were the class benefitting most from haste, so changes to it will probably "nerf" us too.
I just dont see the 10% damage debuff as anything short of ridiculous.

a) Yes the nerf might have been needed with ulduar gear.
b) Its a result of completely idiotic gear design (we should achieve current crit/ap etc stats towards END of expansion not at start)
c) 10% damage debuff = back to dual wielding 1 handers, not a nerf to fury really. It was already theorycrafted with 10% hit penalty, that at some lvl of gear (about the ulduar level), scaling of dual wielding 1hander + weapon spec, was comparable with TG. 10% damage nerf is way worse, and I can see myself going back to 1handers quickly.

I get the feeling that the patch notes were truncated in the middle of the warrior changes.. It seems like there should be more text there, especially since they only mention Arms, and not a word about Fury or Prot. There also seems to be a lack of dividing header between the warrior changes and the next block of text.

Hopefully we'll see corrected patch notes soon.

I honestly think Blizz are taking a harder and longer look at warriors and that we will probably see a bunch of new things come out in the next couple of PTR patches. The only really annoying thing is that most classes get to do all their Theory crafting now while we sit and twiddle our thumbs.

I don't see how using 1h handers is going to be near comparable. We're losing quite a bit of stats for not much gain in any thing else.

Where did you get this list of new glyphs from?

Pretty disappointing to see none added for Fury, especially since the third slot is already so lackluster.

The front page blue post from mmo champion has been updated to include fury and protection changes.

Arms
Talents
  • Wrecking Crew (Tier 10) now states that it no longer stacks with enrage.
  • Blood Frenzy (Tier 9) now increases all physical damage done to the target by 2/4%. (Previously was 1/2%)

Fury
Talents
  • Titan's Grip (Tier 11) now reduces physical damage you deal by 10%.

Protection
Skills
  • Sunder Armor now reduces target's armor by 4% per application. Stacks up to 5. (Previously reduced armor by a set amount)

This confirms the change seen on the fury talent tree.
