How did you outrange it? Max hunter range is 41 yards, but the blinding passion has 45 yards range. Even if you do stand on the platform it isn't going to help you.

On Golemagg I rotate cower and shell-shield cooldowns so that the turtle never goes without damage reduction for too long. Putting on a Brewfest/toc5 stamina trinket helps too.

At the beginning, MD+Volley. Then pop cower, shellshield, and DPS cooldowns, and single target adds down. It'll be pretty close without 2t5, but you should be able to do it.
